Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and Amanda @ On a Book Bender shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.
MINDFUL MUSINGS RECAP
IN NATALIE'S WORLD
Well, as most of you know, I spent the end of last week and half of this week on vacation with my family (along with limited Internet access). Furthermore, I had to have my top ten list for the 2012 Book Battle in by midnight on Friday, so I spent the last few days trying to get in some last minute reads for that. I can't reveal my picks to you yet, but the shortlist should be posted in the near future, so make sure to keep up with Alyssa's blog, The Shady Glade, for updates!
I'm ALMOST over the virus that I picked up at the end of June. The nausea and excessive tiredness are pretty much gone, but I've still got a bit of a cough and congestion going on. Still, I'm hoping that the cold meds will help me kick this thing for good soon! As many of my Twitter buddies already know, the "plague" had me laid up in a bed for a few days, during which I started the TV series Roswell. I also finished it (sadly) four or five days ago, so I hit up Twitter (again) for new show recommendations. Thanks to Tiger and Kristen, I officially started my first Korean drama (which I'd been encouraged to do for awhile), Secret Garden. AND because, like I am with books, I also like to have more than one show on the backburner, so I can switch it up based on my mood. This led to me FINALLY starting the BBC series Sherlock, after being
I'm finally back in my apartment in Springfield, trying to get some packing and cleaning and other things done before the big move at the end of July. I also promised my mother that I would go back to St. Louis for her birthday though, so I'll have to pack up and leave again by the 12th. I start my graduate assistant orientation on the 20th, and we start moving the 26th, so I'm sure the rest of the summer is going to fly by!
AROUND THE BOOK BLOGGING COMMUNITY
Since I wasn't able to put up a Clock Rewinders post last time, these links are for the last two weeks! I'm also not caught up on my Google Reader, so I'm sure I've missed a lot of great posts over the last week!
+ Emily at Emily's Reading Room posted some tips on reviewing audiobooks.
+ There was quite an interesting article over at the Huffington Post about the gender of reading shame.
+ Rachel at Parajunkee's View posted about ARC etiquette.
+ Publishers Weekly posted a pretty extensive list of the Twitter accounts associated with a large number of publishing companies.
+ The website i09 posted an article about awesome books to replace your favorite cancelled TV series.
CURRENT EBOOK DEALS
Keep in mind that while these prices were accurate at the time of my posting them, they are subject to change at any time. Also, some of these deals may be repeats from last week, but I included them again for people who might have missed them the first time around. Finally, though I don't have time to cross check all of the Kindle and Nook deals, if you see a bargain book listed for one device, but not the other, you might want to double check yourself to see if it's on sale! The prices are often the same. This week, the links below go to Amazon!
BOOKS, I READ THEM

I finished Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier and Shadows on the Moon by Zoe Marriott this week, both for the book battle. I enjoyed them both, especially Wildwood Dancing, but you probably won't be seeing reviews from me until next week, because this week is looking kind of full already!
I'm currently reading The Forsaken by Lisa M. Stasse. I received this book for review, which you can expect to see early this week!
NEW ON MY SHELF

I shouldn't have bought a SINGLE ONE of these books guys. I'm not kidding when I say I AM BROKE! But my mother's car broke down while we were at Barnes and Noble last week, which resulted in me buying This is Not a Test. I mean...I was in a book store for three and a half hours, and you expect me NOT to buy a book? I should be grateful I walked out of there with only one! :) (PLUS I had a 20% off coupon. And I COULDN'T let it expire)! Oh, and Sisters Red, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, and Possess are all books that have been on my wishlist for awhile, so when I saw the e-books were on sale for $2.99...well...that whole one-click buying got the best of me. This girl seriously needs to go on a book-buying ban...When it comes to books...self control? I HAVE NONE!

As I already mentioned above, Elena from Novel Sounds sent me this one. Thanks darlin'! :)

Good to hear you're feeling better, hun! I am so glad you're going to read Code Name Verity, it has a bit of a slow start but I promise it pays off.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so looking forward to your review of The Forsaken, I'm suddenly seeing it everywhere!
Ahhhhh! The Girl Of Fire And Thorns was one of my favorite books of 2011 and I am glad to see it on sale, I hope more people end up reading and loving it.
ReplyDeleteALSO YAY CODE NAME VERITY!
AND SERAPHINA!
What a great bunch of books :-D
I'm curious to see what you'll make of Seraphina. The reviews are all over the place. i have a good feeling about it, but Lisa, my co-blogger, didn't really like it and thought it was too long and too complicated. Still, I'm determined to give it a chance.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those people who goes around recommending Code Name Verity to anyone who'll listen. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you like it.
Happy reading, Natalie!
Yay, I'm glad you're getting better! Also, Secret Garden is your first kdrama?! It's hilarious but did flounder near the end, as kdramas tend to. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO READ CODE NAME VERITY!!! Also, I really really want to read Seraphina. It sounds AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about not buying books. I have so many to read and I just don't need to be spending the money right now...*sigh* At least it's a good addiction, not like drugs or anything. Could always be worse!! And, boy, you added some fabulous books to your shelf. Good distractions from your crazy-busy life! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope that you'll be feeling 100% better soon! Being sick - even recovering sick - is no fun. Good luck with cleaning and packing! Those are always difficult tasks to accomplish.

Wow, what a fantasic post! Thanks for the freebie alerts--"The Chosen Ones" looks especially good. I'm interested in knowing what you think of This Is Not a Test; it's one of my favourite novels this year.
ReplyDeleteI own The Brides of Rollrock Island and Seraphina, and they both look wonderful! I'm super-excited to read them both. :)
I hope you feel better Natalie, and all the best to you! Happy reading. :)
I have to read Code Name Verity too. My MIL read my copy while pet sitting so now I have her bugging me to read it too!!
ReplyDeleteI am loving This is Not a test right now - I'm about half way.
I'm glad you're feeling better. Those bugs can be hard to get over. And I'm glad you're watching K-Drama! I don't but I read all of Tiger's recaps :-)
Yay for finally feeling better. I HATE being sick.
ReplyDeleteI really need to buy This is Not a Test as well. I know, I know, I'm addicted to buying books too.
I hope Beautiful Music for Ugly Children is good. I really want to check that out. sounds great.
Been hearing awesome things about Code Name Verity as well!
And I NEED to check out Sherlock. Glad you're hooked though. ;-)

I just bought Possess (and got Girl of Fire & Thorns + City of Bones a few days ago), and am very, very tempted by Sister's Red. I, also, have no self control when it comes to books. Ebook deals are so difficult to resist! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, Natalie! :)
Korean Dramas? I LOVE Korean Dramas! I've watched a ton, and they're great because the episodes are sooooo long and there are so many of them. Next you should watch The King 2 Hearts. It kicks butt. But so many others do, I probably wouldn't be able to stop listing them. I better stop while I'm ahead...
ReplyDeleteI have Code name Verity on my TBR shelf, too, but I'm kind of afraid to read it. What if I don't love it as much as everyone else?
YAY! I have another person to hit up for K Drama recommendations. I didn't realize so many of my book blogging buddies watched them! Lol. But I'll definitely put The King 2 Hearts on my "next-up" list. :)
DeleteI read Sisters Red some time ago and really liked it. I look forward to hearing what you think of that and all of your other fantastic reads. Thanks for the list of deals. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteEeeeee! So many AMAZING books to read this week, Natalie! I've heard great things about This is not a test and I can't wait to read it. ZOMBIES = SCARY + AWESOME! ;) And hehehe, I love watching Korean Dramas too! I've been hearing great things about Seraphina too and can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, Natalie! ♥ Hope you enjoy all the books you got this week!
Wow, awesome haul! Enjoy your books. Beastly is a good read and I think This is Not a Test will be worth it =)
ReplyDeleteHere's my Book Haul post.
Sana @ artsy musings of a bibliophile
This is a very dangerous post for me to read. All the pretty books on sale!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed Wildwood Dancing! Also, I'm eagerly anticipating your thoughts on Secret Garden as you get farther into it. :)
Hope you get completely well soon!
YES for Code Name Verity! I want to read that one so badly too, especially after seeing Elena's review for it -- and that was so nice of her to send it to you! (Don't you just adore that girl?? <3) LOL and I'm so happy you bought This is Not a Test too -- that book is AMAZING (all caps necessary) and I couldn't have expected anything less from spending three and a half hours in the bookstore! x) Can't wait to read what you think of it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy all of your books and have a fantastic reading week, Nat! :) <3
Lol! And yes! I DO adore Elena. I make sure to tell her how awesome she is on a semi regular basis. :D Haha.
DeleteAND I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THIS IS NOT A TEST!!!!!!
OOOOH, I can't wait to see what you think of THE FORSAKEN. It sounds really, really good. And, YAY for THIS IS NOT A TEST. Courtney Summers is one of my favorite authors, and I've only heard good things about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had the chance to take a vacation and also that you're getting over your virus. WOO!
I'll be getting copy of Seraphina soon too! I'm super excited for it. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing what you think about The Forsaken!
I enjoyed The Forsaken! The review will be going up tomorrow, if you're interested! :) Lol.
DeleteAre you sure the car really broke down at Barnes and Noble and it wasn't sabotaged? I hear you! I am seriously trying to cut down on the book intake! I am overwhelmed. I hope you enjoy This is Not a Test!
ReplyDeleteWhat? You think I disconnected the battery or something? **Whistles innocently** Lol. It was actually really stupid. My mother's van has one of those electronic key things that don't really actually look like a key? Well, it just went out. Like...stopped working completely. So we couldn't start the car! I think it wins the most pointless car "breakdown" I've ever had. We just had to wait around until my father got off work and could drive up to bring us the spare!
DeleteOh sorry about the car, but it was evil of it to do that in front of a B&N!! You should get extra points for that. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are feeling better and I can't wait to get my copy of This is Not a Test. I just won that one. YaY! Gotta get Code Name now too...
I'm very curious to see what you think of Firelight! I've heard good and bad things about it, so not sure if it'll be a book I'd enjoy or what. Also: omg, you have such willpower. If my mom's car broke in front of barnes & noble, I would have bought ALL THE BOOKS. seriously.
ReplyDeleteglad to know that you are feeling better, and July is going to be busy for you! hope you have time to read. :)
Busy busy busy Natalie!! Bleugh, I hope you're feeling much better now though, especially since you're having to travel very soom. Safe trip!! And happy birthday to your rockin' mum ;)
ReplyDeleteVery curious to see what you think of The Forsaken, going to read your review shortly! And Code Name Verity!!!! Originally, I probably wouldn't have picked this up. I DO enjoy historicals, I just don't really pursue them often for some idiotic reason, but all the praise for this has really made me sto and pay attention. It sounds like it will be an amazing read.
Seraphina, This is Not A Test, The Girl of Fire and Thorns, The Viscious Deep.... want!! HOPE YOU ENJOY!
I've heard wonderful things about This is Not a Test. I love zombies! You received some great books. :)
