Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge (8)

Clock Rewinders on a Book Binge is where Tara @ 25 Hour Books and Amanda @ On a Book Bender shamelessly plug each other, share the fantastic posts, giveaways, or whatever else we’ve found and loved by other awesome bloggers (or authors!) during the week, and talk about the books we plan on reading in the coming week.

MINDFUL MUSINGS RECAP

IN NATALIE'S WORLD

Not a whole lot went on for me this week, in all honesty. I've been frantically trying to catch up on reading for the 2012 YA Book Battle and helping my mother out around the house while I'm visiting. I HAVE been able to keep my Google Reader under control though, which is a rarity for me!

AROUND THE BOOK BLOGGING COMMUNITY

+  Rachel at Parajunkee's View talked about what publishers look for in book bloggers.

+  Sarah at Clear Eyes, Full Shelves wrote a great post on YA literature and sophistication.

+  Laura at Owl Tell You About it posted about why you should give audiobooks a shot.

+  Kat at Cuddlebuggery Book Blog wrote a hysterical but relevant post for book bloggers, entitled 10 Ways Not to be a Douchebag with your ARCs.

+  Nicole at Word for Teens posted tips for keeping your blog running while being a college student.

+  Pew Internet released a report about library patrons and the usage of e-books.

+  Author Malinda Lo gets brownie points for writing my favorite post of the week, Change Without Blame, which focuses on making positive changes to certain societal norms and expectations that relegate minority populations to the outskirts of the literary world (especially in terms of race and sexual orientation). Seriously? Why have I not read any of this woman's books yet?!?!?

CURRENT EBOOK DEALS

Keep in mind that while these prices were accurate at the time of my posting them, they are subject to change at any time. Also, some of these deals may be repeats from last week, but I included them again for people who might have missed them the first time around. Finally, though I don't have time to cross check all of the Kindle and Nook deals, if you see a bargain book listed for one device, but not the other, you might want to double check yourself to see if it's on sale! The prices are often the same.

BOOKS, I READ THEM

Patient Zero (Joe Ledger, #1)Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10)

When I realized just how close the deadline was for round one judges for the 2012 YA Book Battle, I pretty much put all my other reads on the back burner so I could read as many longlisted titles as possible before the end of June. So I haven't made much progress on Patient Zero and Dead in the Family, but I have thrown some new books into the mix!

Dark of the Moon Shadows on the Moon

I finished Dark of the Moon on Friday night, and you may or may not be seeing a review from me some time this week. It kind of depends on how good I'm doing on the whole reading aspect of judging. I can't say a whole lot about Shadows on the Moon yet because I just started it, but I'm definitely excited to read my first Zoe Marriott book!

First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1)Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2)

In audio news, I finished First Grave on the Right, and I'll be posting my review later this week (probably Monday or Tuesday). I also started listening to the sequel, Second Grave on the Left!

NEW ON MY SHELF

Images are clickable and go to Goodreads. Also, keep in mind that since I'm staying at my parents' house on an extended visit, these don't include the books that have been piling up at my apartment in Springfield. So for those of you who have sent me books recently, don't worry! I've probably received them there...my roommate generally keeps tabs on my mail when I'm gone!

Between Shades of GrayThe Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer, #1)

I bought these while shopping at Sam's with my mom. I forgot just how cheap their books can be! I snagged these for about six bucks apiece. I've heard great things about both, and I'm hoping to be able to get around to them later this summer!

Phoenix Rising (Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences, #1)

This e-book was gifted to me for June's RAK from Heather at Book Savvy Babe. Thanks again, darlin'! :)

  1. Aw, thanks so much for mentioning my post about YA and sophistication. :)

Also, I had somehow missed the Malinda Lo post! That is so excellent, I don't even know how to start describing its awesomeness.

  3. I can't remember the last time I saw so many amazing books in one place. I loved Phoenix Rising so much, you'll see, the writing is extraordinary, it's the cleanest, best steampunk I've ever read. Between Shades of Gray is one of my favorite books ever, and I really liked Shadows on the Moon too, I can't wait to read your review.
I seem to remember that you already bought a copy of Unholy Ghosts, I really hope yu'll find the time to read it soon.

    1. Yay! I JUST started Shadows on the Moon, but so far, I'm realling liking it...especially the Japanese setting. It's giving me a severe case of wanderlust! Lol.

And yes! I do already own Unholy Ghosts, along with the following two books in the series. I've read (and LOVED) Unholy Ghosts, but I haven't gotten a chance to catch up on the rest of the books yet. I CAN'T WAIT though! :)

    1. You know, The Summer I Turned Pretty isn't exactly a book that I would probably be immediately attracted to, Sam, but I just heard SO many fantastic things about it that I finally caved and added it to my to-read list. Hopefully, I'll enjoy it as much as you did. I'm glad to hear it exceeded your expectations!

Between Shades of Gray is a great story, and the first Summer book is very good too. Hope you enjoy the books you got!

  10. Oh, I hope you post a review of Dark of the Moon. I haven't made up my mind about that one, yet.

I can't wait to read the Douchebag post. I just wanted to say that.

    1. I will DEFINITELY be posting a review of Dark of the Moon, probably (err...hopefully) some time next week! I know what you mean about making up your mind. It's taken me awhile to nail down exactly how I feel about that book!

And I hope you enjoy the Douchebag post. I definitely giggled a lot while reading it. :D

  11. I highly anticipate reading Between Shades of Gray since the reviews I've seen have been only complimetary. :) I look forward to your thoughts of it, whenever you get to read it. :) And thanks for alerting us about Unholy Ghosts, Anna Dressed in Blood and Dark Mirror. Those books have been on my to-read list forever!

A lot of brilliant posts this week. :) Somehow, I haven't come across Malinda Lo's post and I all I can say is... wow. That lady just blew my mind. And Kat's post over at Cuddlebuggery is fantastic and absolutely HILARIOUS. :)

    1. I'm glad you found something worthwhile in the ebook deals! I LOVE shopping sales, and it's even more fun when I get to share them with other people! :)

Malinda Lo's post...I don't even think I can put it into words. That woman is so incredibly intelligent and well-spoken (written?). I'm happy to hear you liked the article as well!

      Thanks for stopping by, Leanne!

  13. You read Dead In The Family! Did you like it?? I'm really looking forward to Deadlocked--no matter where these books go, I can't help myself... but, as much as I love this series... I sitll think the first 3 books were the best... which is weird, given I'm an Eric fan...

    1. I haven't finished it yet, but it's decent so far. It's kind of like culture shock, if you know what I mean. Since so much bad crap went down in the last book, Sookie's so...different, you know? I mean, I'd expect her to be, but it's taking me a little while to get used to it.

    2. Definitely... I thinks she's becoming a little more like TV Sookie? I don't know... I don't love the series with the passion I once did, and I don't enjoy the stories *as* much, but I still REALLY like them. It's like visiting old friends :D

I also think I binge-read the first 10 books, and it's felt different reading them year-by-year since?

  14. Oooh I'm excited to see what you think of Shadows on the Moon! I'm sooo looking forward to Zoe's upcoming Katana trilogy (2013, I think?) so I might check out her previous books before then. And

I SO need to get on the Jenny Han series too, everyone raves about those books! Happy reading! :D
