Publication Date: May 2005

First Lines:

"I found the note taped to my door when I got home from work."

Back Cover:

It's not every day that you come across a naked man on the side of the road. That's why cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse doesn't just drive on by. Turns out the poor thing hasn't a clue who he is, but Sookie does. It's Eric the vampire--but now he's a kinder, gentler Eric. And a scared Eric, because whoever took his memory now wants his life. Sookie's investigation into who and why leads straight into a dangerous battle among witches, vampires, and werewolves. But a greater danger could be to Sookie's heart--because this version of Eric is very difficult to resist...

My Thoughts:

I'm quite content as I'm writing this review, because this series has yet to disappoint me! Dead to the World continued where the third book leaves off, with Sookie and Bill separated indefinitely after the events that happened in Club Dead. But Sookie doesn't have to much time to sit around and sulk, because Eric, the vampire sheriff of Area 5, shows up without his memory. Apparently, he ticked off a coven of vampire blood-drinking, shape-shifting witches. Sookie agrees to hide Eric while Eric's business partners, Pam and Chow, try to solve the problem.

On top of everything else, Sookie's brother, Jason, disappears, and Alcide's shape-shifting girlfriend, Debbie Pelt, seems to have it out for Sookie...again.

Dead to the World lets us see an entirely new side of Eric. Eric's always had a thing for Sookie, but, with his memory and arrogant personality missing in action, Sookie starts to fall for the vampire. He's kinder, sweeter, and seems to trust her completely.

I'm really curious to see how the series will go from here. Whether Eric remembers what happened or not, Bill's got some serious competition in the Sookie department. And the little occurrence that happens with Jason (don't want to give away any spoilers, but those of you who've read the book will know what I'm talking about) is definitely going to make the next book interesting. I'm looking forward to see where Harris has decided to take the series. I think it has the potential to be pretty awesome, and, from what I've heard, I think I'll like where it goes.

The only sad thing about finishing Dead to the World is that I'll probably have to wait till after Christmas to buy the next book. The money I have now has to be applied to buying Christmas presents for the family. Hmm....you think one of my jock teenage brothers would like a copy? Just kidding :)

Final thoughts? If you haven't read the series yet, DO IT NOW! Seriously guys, why haven't you picked it up yet?
